This post is going to be quick. It’s going live 2 days before Christmas and I’m not done my gifts for Christmas (oops!) and have to get back to them. I hope you enjoy this square as much as I do!
So, over the last little while, we’ve been working on various granny squares for our blanket and today we have a nice and simple but pretty design. I think this one would look so sweet with a couple of different colour circles, as a baby blanket, or perhaps red and green circles with white around for a Christmas blanket. What about changing colours for each row, in a rainbow for a baby or unicorn blanket.

Circle In a Square
Materials we’re using:
Yarn: Loops & threads Snuggly Wuggly
Row 1: To begin, we make our Magic Circle with 3 ch, and add 11 more dc to the circle, but we’re creating space, so we’re going to make dc, ch for each one. then slip st to the top of the chains and cinch up your loop.
For row 2, we’re going to work into the chains from the first row. For this row, our repeat is 2dc ch. To work the row we’re going to start with a ch2, and a dc in the first chain space, ch1, this skip over to the next chain space, now start the repeats, 2dc ch, to the end of the row and slip stitch to the top of the chains from the beginning of the row.
To begin row 3, we’re going to slip stitch over to the next chain space. Chain 2, 3dc and ch into that space, skip to the next chain space, begin repeat: 4dc ch around the row, and slip stitch to the top of the chains at the beginning of the row.
At the beginning of row 4, change colours to white then we’re going to start our first row of white with a chain 3, then skip over to the next chain space, and make 2dc and 2ch, skip to the next space and make our corner with: 3tc 2ch 3tc. for the first side, we’re making 2dc ch2 into the next 2 space, then make another corner. Follow around with 2 clusters of 2dc on each side then a corner, with ch2 between. Then slip st to the top of the chains at the beginning of the row.
Finally, for row 5, we’re basically going to single crochet into each stitch around. So begin with a chain 1, then single crochet across to the chains between our sets of tc, make our corner: 2sc, ch, 2sc, then continue working sc and corners until you get back to the beginning, slip st to the chain at the beginning of the row, fasten off and weave in all your ends.
So make a bunch of these, and then join them up, using one of the methods shown in this tutorial and stay tuned very soon, we’ll talk about blanket borders!!
