Day 1: How to Crochet Basketweave Pattern

Basketweave crochet stitches

Today is Day 1 of our brand new series I am calling 30 stitches in 30 days.

This month, we will be creating 30 videos and 30 stitch patterns, beginning today. We will be doing 15 crochet stitches, from Sept 1st to 15th and then 15 knit stitches from Sept 16th to 30th. I will also be making short blog post with each written stitch pattern.

Here is the calendar we will follow! You can also subscribe on YouTube and hit the bell to be notified when each video is posted! Each day, both the blog post and video will go live at Noon EST.

So, here we go! Basketweave crochet pattern is perfect for a blanket, scarf or anything that doesn’t need increases or decreases. The pattern doesn’t really lend itself to those changes. I’m sure it would even work as a hat, with a gathered crown.

I used a thick yarn for the example, Bernat Softee Chunky. So, hopefully, you can see the stitch pattern well. I love this one using a medium weight yarn, and about a 6mm crochet hook. Using a larger hook helps keep the stitch pattern from getting too tight. We use Front Post and Back Post Double Crochet stitches to work this pattern. If you need to learn those, go here, and come back. I’ll wait.
