Day 10: How to Crochet Star Stitch

Star stitch is a lot of fun! We create alternating rows of stars with rows of single crochet. Now, I’m sure if working in the round, like for a hat, you’d be able to work the rows of stars on top of one another instead of working the row of sc in between.

I can see some super cute baby hats in the future made with star stitch! Tag us on Instagram, if you make any! @purple.rose.crafts

Star Stitch

Multiples of 2 + 2 stitches.

Row 1: sc into second chain from your hook and each stitch across.

Row 2: ch 2, 1st star stitch: Insert hook into the chain below your hook, draw up a loop, insert hook into the stitch at the base of the chains, draw up a loop, insert hook, into the next stitch over, draw up a loop, insert hook into second stitch over, draw up a loop. Total 5 loops on your hook, YO draw through all 5 loops, and chain 1 to close the stitch.

To make the second star stitch, see the image. Insert into the chain, the last strand of the previous star(at the bottom), the last stitch you inserted into for the last star, then the next stitch over, and the second stitch over. YO and draw through all the loops on your hook, and chain to finish.

Repeat the second star across the row.

Row 3: ch, single crochet across.

Repeat Rows 2 & 3.
