Day 12: Single Crochet Ribbed Baby Hat (FREE Pattern)

In a previous post we used single crochet ribbing to make a blanket border, but this time we’ll work it independently to make a super fun and cute baby hat!

These hats are worked flat and use single crochet stitches so they are perfect for beginners to crochet. Hello, first crochet project!

Feel free to experiment with stripes, variegated yarn or single colours to make these beauties!

To begin, decide on the size you want to make. If you know how to foundation single crochet, then it’ll be really easy to decide how long to make your hat. Keep in mind the hat has a flipped brim, so you’ll need it to be longer than the finished height shown in the chart below.

Alright, so for this hat pattern, use the below sizing as a base to get started.

Ribbed Baby Hat

Multiples: Any number of stitches.

Chain desired number of stitches.

Row 1: single crochet into second chain from hook and each stitch across.

Row 2: chain 1, single crochet into the back loop only of each stitch across. Regular single crochet in the last stitch on each row.

Repeat Row 2.
