Thermal stitch is a fun variation to single crochet. It creates a nice and thick padded fabric that is perfect for a pot holder, or protector for dishes, or of course if you want something extra thick and warm.
Thermal Stitch (Single Crochet Variation)
Chain any number of stitches.
Row 1: single crochet in the 2nd chain from your hook, and each ch across.
Row 2: Ch, Insert hook into the back loop at the top of the sc from the row below, and the opposite loop of the foundation chain, finish single crochet. Repeat across.
Row 3: Ch, insert hook into back loop of below sc, and the front loop of the row below.
Repeat Row 3 until you have the desired size.
