Lately we’ve been working on several options for crochet borders for blankets, and today is no exception! We are introducing this fun fans border. Now, I know it looks a little difficult and I thought so too, but trust me, its easy!
We use chains, slip stitches and double crochets to make it. Nice and simple!
This one is so pretty it would just be so great as a border for any feminine blanket, like this waffle stitch one, or the blanket stitch one we did last time, even a simple granny stripe, or double crochet blanket. Its so versatile that it will work on many different options. I can’t wait to see what you pair this one up with.

Today, we’re going to explore what happens when you slip stitch in behind your work to create this fun border.
Tip: single crochet once around the outside of your blanket in the main blanket colour, before fastening off. This will give a nice clean transition from your main colour to the border.
Crochet Fans Blanket Border
Materials: small amount of a contrasting yarn to your blanket pattern, and keep working with your regular crochet hook.
Note: At the end of your blanket, fasten off, and join your new border yarn around the middle one side of the blanket, really anywhere but at the corner.
To begin, slip stitch to join to the edge. Chain 3, skip back 2 stitches to the right, and slip stitch there.
Now ch 2, and dc 6 over the 3 chains only, not into the blanket edge. This should fill up the chain 3 with dc.
Skip 2 stitches on the outside of the blanket, and slip stitch into the third.
This is your first fan.
To make the second, and each one after that first one, you will bring your ch3 behind the previous fan, and slip stitch into the same center of the previous fan, that you put the initial slip stitch (in the middle of the previous fan)
Continue with ch2, dc6, over the ch 3. Then skip 2 stitches and slip st into the third, from the previous end of the fan.
At the corner, continue working your fans, without adjusting or adding any stitches to your row or fans. It will round the corner, and keep going down the side, like the below image.
This is a pretty simple technique that creates such a lovely looking, and even advanced looking border. But, shhh, no one has to know it was so simple.
