Well, the votes are in. Last week on my Instagram Story I posted a poll asking my tribe which granny square they wanted to see me break down on my YouTube Channel, and here on the blog. So thank you so much to those who voted! As the title suggests, the Daisy square won out against the Celtic knot granny.
Honestly, I love both of them, so it was my pleasure to create this video tutorial, and post for you, for this beautiful daisy square. Next time, I may show how to put the daisy into the corner of the square, instead of the center. Let me know in the comments below if you’d like to learn that one.
The link to this one, is on my Pinterest board, but the post doesn’t include a description. The good news is, if you can read the chart on the right, then you can make this beautiful granny. If it helps, the long T’s are double crochet, and the circles are chains. Start from the middle and work your way out. 🙂 Also, the black section where the stitches have so many legs, that is the puff stitch.
Materials we’re using for these squares:
– Yarn: Loops & Threads Snuggly Wuggly in Cool Baby, White, & Soft Yellow
– Crochet hooks we used3.5mm for this square (It’s a good idea to get a set of hooks, if you’re just starting out. I like to use a smaller hook to weave in ends, like 3mm)
Puff Stitch
To make a puff stitch, chain 2, because they will be the same height as a double crochet, then yarn over, insert your hook into the stitch, yarn over and draw up your loop like a double crochet, keep your yarn loose, yarn over again, insert your hook back into the same stitch, and catch another loop of yarn, continue until you’ve drawn up 5 times, making 9 loops on your hook. Yarn over and draw that loop through all the loops on your hook, and chain 1 to close the stitch. Watch the video below, and skip to 2:25 to see the puff stitch in action.
The Daisy Granny Square
Row 1: Start with chaining 2, and work 11 more dc into your magic loop. slip stitch to the top of the chains, and cinch up your tail to close the circle. Change colours.
Row 2: Chain 2, puff stitch into each stitch around, including the slip stitch from the previous row. Slip stitch to the top of the chain 2. Change colours.
Row 3: Chain 2, *hdc in the next st, sc in next 3 stitches, hdc, corner [dc3 ch1 dc3] all in the same stitch*, continue around, slip stitch to the top of the chain 2.
Row 4 & 5: ch2, dc in each stitch, and make corner as above, [dc3 ch1 dc3], slip to top of the chains. Change colours between rows 4 & 5.
