New Dishcloth Pattern: Double Seed Stitch, Farmhouse-style -

So I have been working on a bunch of new patterns for you guys lately, and I am so excited to introduce, a variation on our Farmhouse Dishcloth pattern, the Double Seed Farmhouse Dishcloth. To date, it has been so popular on YouTube, and is one of my most popular posts here on the blog as well. So I knew I needed to make another version for you. I love knitting and crocheting, but I rarely repeat patterns, with the exception of dishcloths. I make so many around the holidays, for my kid’s teachers at school, I need quick and easy patterns that I can do without too much concentration.

I was working on one that was a pretty lattice stitch, from Studio Knit and while it was pretty, it had 18 rows to the repeat! That pic is straight from their site, and I’ve linked it, if you want to check it out.

It’s just knits and purls, so fairly beginner friendly, but its a bit complicated. I added a few stitches of knit to the outside and a dishcloth was born, but it was not very TV friendly.

Anyway, this pattern is really a cross between our farmhouse dishcloth and the moss stitch dishcloth we did here on the blog. We’re working it diagonal, like the farmhouse, including the same way we did our increases and decreases, and then in the center, we add purls, to make this beautiful double seed stitch.

Farmhouse Double Seed Stitch Dishcloth

Size: 9” x 9”

Materials: Bernat Handicrafter Cotton (4) I recommend a solid or stripey. (Variegated is too busy to see the stitch well.) I used Soft Grey.
Needles: 4.5mm or 5mm single pointed or round needles.
Stitches used: k, knit; p, purl; YO, yarn over; k2tog, knit 2 together; CO, cast on; BO, bind off.

Notes: For our double seed stitch, we use k, p, in seed stitch, but instead of moving over 1 stitch for the next row, we’re working 2 stitches on top of another of the same, so knit on top of knit, or purl on top of purl, 2 together, before moving into the next stitch.

Instructions:

Increases: Row 1: CO4, k2 yo, k2. (5)

Row 2: k2, YO, k to end. (6)

Row 3: k2, YO, k to end. (7)

Row 4: k2, YO, p, k to end. (8)

Row 5: k2, YO, p, k, p, k to end (9)

Row 6: Continue k2, YO, *p, k* repeat until 3 stitches left, k3. Repeat Row 6 until you have about 45 stitches, or reach desired size from corner along the side.

Decreases: Row 1: k, k2tog, YO, k2tog, *k, p* repeat until 3 stitches left, k3.

Row 2: k, k2tog, YO, k2tog, *p, k* repeat until 3 stitches left, k3.Continue Row 1 & 2, until you have no more room for purls on the row, about 7 stitches left.

Final Rows: k, k2tog, YO, k2tog, knit to end of the row.

Follow this row down to 4 stitches left. Then you can cast off and weave in your ends.
